..........WE ARE NOT MEETING AT THE CARPENTERS TAVERN - SEE BELOW FOR DETAILS..................
Who would be interested in a wine tasting evening at Averys if we put one on?
I need to see if we could get up to minimum numbers.
I am typing this from Lucca in Tuscany, Italy and although I don't drink myself I am being assured from my travelling comapagnions that all the local wines they are trying are really good. Denise and I are coming here on holiday in September so hopefully she will be testing some herself.
Does Thacthers make wine?
This will be on 22 August - :
WINE TASTING
Friday 22 August
We have organised a wine tasting in the historic wine cellars of Avery’s, to take place on the evening of Friday 22 August.
We meet at Avery’s shop at 9 Culver Street, Bristol, BS1 5LD and the programme for the evening is:
Meet at 7pm in the shop, for a glass of Champagne
Go down into the vaulted cellars under Park Street at 7.30 for the tasting
We will be in teams and start with a blind tasting of 3 white wines. The sommeliers will give us a talk on the various aspects to look out for first and we will have to guess the grape variety, country of origin and price.
We will then have some bread, cheese and pate, together with a glass of red wine.
There is then a blind tasting of 3 red wines, again with a talk by the sommeliers first.
The winning team will get prizes,
All of the wines that we taste can be bought that evening with a 10% discount.
All this for just £20 per head.
Please let me know if you are coming and let me have your cash on a club night at Dundry or send me a cheque.

I went on a cider tasting last night. 8 different ciders and in theory you had 1/2 pint of each, but it was brought out in jugs and there seemed to be much more than that. No Thatchers though.
I feel surprisingly well this morning.
Denise was so jealous that she almost logged onto the forum to reply to you.
Where was this tasting Tim?
Works social do at the Surrey Wine Vaults in the centre(ish) of town. Stacks of food too. £25 a head I think it is.
Turns out the wife of the bloke that runs it used to work with Julia ages ago at Rolls-Royce. Small world.
