..........WE ARE NOT MEETING AT THE CARPENTERS TAVERN - SEE BELOW FOR DETAILS..................
As one of many people im sure watching the Brean thread on the british rally forum very closely it's all looking very messy. I for one have no interest in taking sides at present or want to risk shaming people accidently. As a club who have supported the event very strongly over the years with bags of marshals and competitors as well as other officials, are 'we' as a club aiming to comment or help out in 2010? I'm sure we haven't heard half of what's actually happened/happening and I as a competitor who enjoys the event as a good start of the year shakedown/social, would hate to see the event disappear.
I know that many people in the bubble of rallying haven't seen eye to eye with key organisers of this event but it would certainly be a gap in my calendar if it wasn't there.
My concern is that 'Tavern' as one of the clubs in the close geographical area of the event, are we set to be judged as to our actions, or do we all sit on the fence and wait for it to blow over...???
Tim, over to you...!!!
This was discussed at length at the committee meeting last night and I shall be putting something in the magazine after the one landing on your doorstep this week.
We are to an extent fence sitting, as we do not see it as appropriate, as a club, to get involved in other clubs internal spats or politics and we shall certainly not be commenting externally on the situation. Anyone who does so, does it personally and not on behalf of Tavern.
Like you, I don't think any of us are aware of all the facts however we have a great deal of sympathy for the plight of WSM MC, purely on the principal of a club's main event being taken by another club and run exactly as before on the same date. As we know, the loss of an event like this is financially threatening to the very existence of a club. However we cannot tell our members what or what not to do and it is entirely up to them whether they enter the event or not. Likewise with marshalling, if as a club we receive a request for marshals from CRSW we will make that request known to the members and it is then their decision whether to attend or not. However, it will be as individuals not as Tavern.
The regs are out and closing date is only 3 weeks away, so............................
standing back and taking cover quick
..................who's doing Brean then
Andy Boswell wants to co-drive on the event and is looking for a driver.
Andy can be contaced at andrew@mobfilm.com
There may be an entry form kicking around the lounge floor........ It's a tough decision at present. I really enjoy the event at the start of the year and it always gives some good competition. However, is it really worth all the slagging which is clearly going to kick off when the entries appear?! As I see it, the event is worth doing and gives me a lot of pleasure, so we'll see
I see WSM MC have organised a rally sprint at Weston Airfield on 31st January.
Be interesting to see how that fares.
Fellow Tavern Members, I have an entry in for the event, and I'm currently building my Lead shelter in readiness for the backlash to follow from Joe Pubic.
Think I might go to Weston Airport on the 31st... If we get asked to do a time control put me down or as teh ENtry fee is £79 might even see if I can take the Escort.......
The Escort will still need an MOT....
but no tax and therefore no insurance... so MoT + £79 + £20 of fuel I might be able to squeeze out !!!!
Suppose I forgot one thing though... time to prep... Suspect I'd end up marshalling !
Lee, I've already got my crash helmet on in hope that when the sticks start flying it won't hurt too much!!!!
What's the entry then Lee???? Tell us all....?!
Two drivers are allowed, make Sara pay half & let her have a go
Are you that desperate to try and find a 'king crunch' candidate???
living life dangerously there Will, Sarah looks on the TMC forum to read whats going on nearly every day!!!
Ooops!! Im sure Sarah's a very sensible and safe driver.....
37 entries on the official website now.
Would be interesting to see who though... A lot of the 'regulars' have already stated that they're going to be at the sprint just up the road. Although let's be honest, it would be good for some extra crews to get a run for once.
Well our entry has been accepted and I see that Rod's let the 'cat out of the bag' regarding what he considers to be 'top seeds'. I'm looking forward to a good weekend with a good social, but of course it will be great to be back out in the car.
Anyone else got an entry? I assume it will be a couple of weeks yet until we see the full entry list.
I'll be at the Weston MC Rally Sprint......
Entry List now available... click here. Seems we'll be chasing down a Focus WRC!
And it'll be great to battle with Neil Weaver again
I've just spotted an interesting entry on the WSM Rallysprint in a BMW................
Even more interesting Dale Lovegrove is co-driving for Rich Baker in car 19 and driving car 49 with John Lovegrove co-driving.
It should be a busy day for him
He should have enough time to do both, the stages are short.
Asking for marshalls in Motorsport News.
I'm sure they'll be struggling for marshalls even on the day.
Its not that interesting, believe me!!!
Good to see about 8 different entrants from Tavern out this weekend. Be good to catch up with everyone.
Had a good weekends motorsport.
8th overall, 1st FWD car, 1st in class by 12 minutes!!!
Was a great event with some good stage layouts. Jim did well to get 7th overall, 2nd in class.
Almost forgot to say that we've got some great in-car footage of some very 'friendly' marshalls. Will be uploaded to youtube very soon. Worth a look eh Lee????!!!!
