2007 Wales Rally GB – Team Tavern
Once again Tavern are providing a Marshalling team to assist on Wales Rally GB which runs on 30 Nov – 2 Dec, with Shakedown being on Thursday 29 Nov.
We’ve now been allocated our Stage Assignments … which looks remarkably similar to last year.
Thursday 29 Nov Shakedown Service
Friday 30 Nov SS3/6 Rheola
Saturday 1 Dec SS7/10 Crychan
Sunday 2 Dec SS15/17 Trawscoed
I’ve already been in conversations with the Stage Commander for Rheola and he’s asked whether we would be willing to help with the Flying Finish Control. However if you want to come to Rheola on the Friday and do not want to work on the Flying Finish then he will allocate Marshals to other parts of the stage. This year the second run through Rheola is in the dark so should be quite a spectacular sight with the cars having their Spots blaring etc !
I’m still waiting to here on allocations within Crychan & Trawscoed but they are likely to be in stage posts so like last year along with our Marshal duties we should get to see some could action from the cars.
Remember that to marshal on WRGB you need to be a registered Marshal with the MSA, for more information on how to become registered then either come up to the club on a Monday night for a chat with our group of experienced Marshals or have a look at the msa website www.msauk.org.
For more information on the event including timetable, marshal news then checkout the event website at www.walesrallygb.com.
To register your Interest or for more info please contact Nick Eccles via nick.eccles@eds.com or 07790 490027.
Please Note I will need to start confirming numbers in the next 2 weeks.
Thanks
Nick
Nick,
Put me down for Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
I am working on Thursday, but probably can't make it.
We need to find a pub showing Sky Sports on the Saturday night.
Tim
Denise and I will be doing all 4 days, staying in the car for 3 nights (God help us!!!).
The only thing that could stop this happening is that I was told last thing today that I have to go to India for work in November or December for a week but I have had this holiday booked for nearly 12 months so I should be OK. If I can't be there then Denise says she will not go either.
I am sure it will be OK.
What's the event ? coverage of the Bulldog and your 2nd in class ?
I wish!!!!
Watford v City
My India trip is after Rally GB so we will be there for 4 days.
Nick, do you have any contact details for the shakedown marshalling or should be just turn up.
I'm still collating details as the staffing people co-ordinate it centrally and they'll send out the passes as per last year, then we'll be given the specific instructions and signing on details. However I'll put you/Denise down as the Tavern MC Contact for the Shakedown.
I'm going to register for shakedown as well as knowing me, when it comes to it I'll probably say sod the rest day and want to go !
The met office website for Wales is slightly better.
Sunny day all day Thursday, showers Friday, almost no rain Saturday and heavy rain Sunday.
By the way, here is a report from Taverns man on the spot, Nick Eccles.
Hello All,
Just to let you know it's wet, slippery and very muddy out there (my disco is now an attractive shade of grey/brown!!), where we are on the FF on Rheola it's actually a bit of Tarmac road and nice hard standing so we shouldn't be too bad. However the trip through the stage is a different matter, unless you really want to drive the complete stage I recommend you take the short cut (which should be sign posted) from J7-J23. If you do want to drive the stage then take it easy through J8-J10 as it is extremely muddy!!
Any probs or questions give me a call as I won’t be checking this email address again (you can use nick@brizrallyesport.co.uk) mobile is 07790 490027.
I'll see you all Friday morning ! (Alan & Denise, I am definitely not going to Service on Thursday)
Nick.
(I've learnt a good way to ensure the warning arrows are always the same distance from a junction, tie a 100m length of rope from the back of one vehicle, they drive the stage, stop at a Junction and the following vehicle puts a stake in where the rope stops ….. Very simple, basic and very effective !! - perhaps we can try it at Keevil next year ?!?!?!?)
By the way Tim, the easy-up is in my garage and I have no way of transporting it.
Last year it was raining too much at times to put it up anyway.
URGENT ATTENTIONFor any one going to the spectator stage at he Millennium Stadium in Cardiff
The main A48 dual carriageway off the motorway is blocked just after the docks (Newport Road) turn off . A very nice lorry driver with a crane has damaged Hill Bridge in cardiff. We have been told it could be closed until the middle of next week. Not sure of another way into the place unless you use the A470 and come in from the other side. (Normally very busy)There is a small coast road which could be joined off the newport road junc 28 and comes out by the docks but you who need to look this up on the map. Or you could sit it out in the queue it took us 35 mins to travel from the motorway to the docks turning this morning. About 3 miles
Best of luck
Variable weather, a variety of jobs lots of good natured speccies - a great 4 days away in good company.
A big thanks to Nick for organising the weekends entertainment. I am knackered so god knows what Nick must feel like as he was out setting up stages all last week as well.
Denise was so tired she did not even watch "Strictly Come Dancing" that was recorded on Saturday and Sunday night.
