We are looking to run stage start on the 3 Counties Stages at Smeatharpe Sunday March 2
Names to Denise ASAP
Shaun Harding and myself are entered on this event using the Astra so not able to help with marshaling,Sorry!
Hope to see plenty of Tavern people competing and a few out doing the Start with Dave.
Will Nick have the Escort ready? or is he saving its debut for Caerwent?!
Don't know if it's any help Nick, but www.motorsports.com hold trackdays at Colerne,Abingdon,Keevil with unlimited use for the day, quite reasonable rates too. I'm looking to test the Golf at one of these days when it's finished, may take the Astra to Keevil just before Caerwent for a warm-up! (it's me that needs the practice after the winter!)
Your Escort sure looks good from the photos Nick, must call over to see it properly - where are you?
Also, I've got a few tyres to fit on rims before Smeatharpe so does your offer still stand for help with fitting on your machine?
When I looked at the track days before some of them will not allow competition cars...
I'm in Brislington, you're welcome over any time and the offer is still there.
Nice to see quite a few Tavern faces out, with Dave M doing the Arrivals and as far as I remember Maureen,Phil B,Tim,Dave S,and Steve Eccles looking after the Finish.Sorry if I've missed anyone else there. After Mark Chapmans very early retirement with transmission problems it was only Shaun and myself left driving for Tavern. All was going quite well up to Stage 4 with an 11th fastest overall on that stage getting us into the top 20. Then all went wrong on the next stage when exiting a hairpin right soon after the split, the car strangely pulled sharply to the right as we were accelerating out and caused us to drive over/through several marker tyres. I very quickly realised the O/S/F tyre was flat but had to try to get around the stage to the finish. At somewhat reduced speed! we made it, albeit losing a great chunk of time but to no avail as we found the top front engine mounting bracket had broken. With no spare we had no option but to retire.
It's possible that the tyre was already deflating before we hit the tyres and caused the car to pull to the right so violently, but I have to blame myself for not lifting off sooner and MAYBE then missing the tyres and throwing away a possible top 15 finish as we were going really well up to that point.
Roll on Caerwent! And maybe there will be a few more Tavern entries on that one??
