Red Dragon Rally - 5 April
 (United Kingdom)

In previous years this event has been a round of the BTRDA Championship but it is not a qualifying round in 2008.

It is however a round of the ASWMC, ANWCC and Welsh Rally Championships.

The whole event is on one day with the first car away from the Rally HQ and start at Walters Arena at 10:30 and due to finish back at Walters at 14:45 having done 6 stages, Rheola, Walters Arena and Resolven twice with one service, no management cars, 43 stage miles and 62 road miles.

Denise and I have managed to be entry number 1 and I have spoken to Jim Munden and he is planning on doing it with the Subaru.  I assume there may be other entries from the Munden crew as well.

It would be a good event to go and watch or marshall so hopefully we will see some of you there in four weeks time.  I had better get on and put the car back together after hitting a tree on the Wyedean.

So far Tavern entries are me, Jim, Simon & Richard Baker (Tavern???)

There are only 28 entries so far for the event so I hope it runs.

Re: Red Dragon Rally - 5 April

Apparently there are now over 40 entries although only 35 show on the wqebsite.

The minimum entries is supposed to be 60 but the organisors say it will definately run.

The car is fully ready to go just needs a few tyres swapping over on rims.  This is the first time the car has actually been ready to go before the last couple of nights for as long as I remember.  The event had better run.....

Anyone coming to watch?

The seeded entry list is on the website and it is a strong but small entry of 52.

I am seeded 42nd and 5th B10 which I am not very happy with.  I am behind a crew from Dovey Valley MC and 3 crews from Port Talbot MC.  What a suprise!!!!!  I beat the B11 crew in front of me by over 2:30 on the Wyedean.

Jim has a good seeding of 19th and Siimon as well is 30th.

Do you want me to fill your entry form out next time?
We are top 2wd in the Nat A section of the Border Counties. Strange!

Re: Red Dragon Rally - 5 April

Had a great day today! A difficult morning where Denise was not quite on the notes and I was not quite in the groove. Overshoots on stages 1 and 3 cost us 45-60 seconds and we both thought our day was spoilt. With the pressure off we had a really good afternoon with no real mistakes (50 seconds faster on SS4 than SS1). We were really surprised at the finish to find that we had won B10 by over 2 minutes.

Well done to the organisers sticking with the event even though it was undersubscribed and I can't remember the last event I did with no hold ups at all. It was slick from beginning to end with friendly marshals and officials.

Bad luck to the other two Tavern MC crews Jim Munden/Andy Frost cracked the Escorts sump on the rough downhill section on SS4 and Simon Munden/John Leigh blew a turbo on their Subaru on SS2.

Tim and Kit broke a driveshaft on the last stage but managed to limp through the stage dodging the marshals clearing up and marshals cars on the stage to find that the finish clock was (to quote Tim) ".....about to bu**er off!".    They were not very happy as you can imagine.

Re: Red Dragon Rally - 5 April

Yes, that was exciting.
Because the SRC contenders in 2wd 8valve cars (50 of them) ran at the front, and then they seeded the Nat A and Nat B events together, we didn't start until 11.04. You would have thought we would have been awake by then, but the first two stages Kit drove like a granny and my note calling was all over the place. Got into it after that and were really enjoying the stages, especially Falstone and think we could have certainly got 2nd 2wd. The second run through Harwood was awful though; there was a really rough bit and the driveshaft went at the end of it. We thought it might be a puncture so pulled off to check, but realised it was the shaft then had difficulty getting back on the track. We eventually did, but were last car on the road by several minutes. But the stage commander had obviously shut the stage, despite no course closer going through, as we came across chicanes either fully or partially dismantled and then a convoy of marshals cars driving out. At the finish the clock crew were packing up and seemed surprised we wanted a time. We were 5 minutes over target, so still well within lateness.
Then to cap it all the rally finish clock was about to disappear until our service crew stopped them.

Yes well done Alan and Denise it makes all those hours in the garage worthwhile.

Gutted i couldn't make it over to spectate but 4 rallies in 5 weekends was pushing it.

So Tim did you get a time,i haven't seen the results yet.

Yes we got a time, and got the B11 class award (1 starter, 1 finisher ) but we had to go looking for the award!
